One: Oh the Places You'll Go!
I know, I know, who needs some Seuss when you're an adult?! But the better question should be, why would one ever grow out of Seuss? I am a full believer of the inner child within us. Not only that, but the crazy illustrations and words themselves are perfect for someone who is stressed and unsure, or someone who is perfectly aware of what it is that they want to accomplish in the next few years of college or wherever the world takes you.
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...”
See it's perfect for the graduate starting his or her life.
Two: The Giver. For the trials and tribulations that life will bring. For pain and pleasure. For truths and non truths.
Three: To Kill A Mockingbird. This one simply because it is one of my favorite books ever. It was one of the first books that I read in middle school that I fell in love with. I don't know if it is still in the curriculum, but it should be.
One should not expect things to be easy. They should learn and understand the difference between right and wrong, black and white and recognize all the shades of gray in between.
Four: For a female: Speak. Simply because everyone should know that they have a voice and they need to learn how to use it. College is hard and life after college is even harder. Starting out and not knowing which way to go, which way to turn, what could happen is something that one doesn't expect to have to figure out when they are in high school. Having a voice to speak for oneself, even others, is very important. Not too many realize this.
Five: What Color is Your Parachute? This one is more for the college grad, but it can still apply. For those who don't really know what they want, or how to start out. Its like a manual in how to apply schooling to real life.
