Maddie

For those of you that have human children and think that in no way shape or form can a furry animal be called a "child", you're wrong.  Straight up.  I looked for her for over two years.  Not serious, then seriously looking and placing calls to the ads in the papers.  And then I went to a puppy store and this little face, with her green eyes and pink nose and fury paws looked up at me and I was gone.  There was no chance for any other puppy in there (despite my brothers pleas for the long haired dachshund).  I already had her named (even before I went in)... Maddison Elizabeth.

She goes everywhere with me.  To my rents, to work (when we dont have clinic or meetings) for rides to anywhere and everywhere, on vacations.  My usual thought when I plan a vacation is "are there pet friendly hotels?"  If so, this little gem is coming with me.  If not then I leave her with my mother, whom I know takes good care of her, but the way those little green eyes look at me from the back of the couch when I am pulling out of the driveway make me want to not go anywhere...ever.

She gets groomed when I know she needs it.  I live in VA now, and its wayyyy warmer down here than it ever was in NY. So I need to keep her comfortable, because her fur is thick and she pants.  I dont prefer her groomed because she looks like this:
But then it grows out again and she's my little bear cub butt.

She's the reason I get up in the am.  Mostly because she tugs at my hand because she needs to go out.  She cuddles me when I cry.  She's always at the door when I come home.  She makes me laugh and really just makes me heart swell every time I look at her.

My love for her may be considered creepy, but I've never thought of it that way.  It's just... perfect.  She's perfect.
