Is it a sign when you get facial twitches only while at work?
One of my girls at the office yesterday told me to ice it. Take some ice and hold it to the twitch spot for a few minutes. I immediately thought that was ridiculous, but when she said it again, I decided to do it at home when it happened later in the evening.
Much to my surprise when I got to work this am and realized that I did not have any facial twitches last night. BUT, my forehead and left eye are at it again as I type. Ugh....
Stress? Lack of sleep?
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving so I will get a day to do nothing but wake up and tend to my fur child and then travel the 25 minutes it takes me to get to my rents to pig out on some food. And Friday, well, my ass is working on Friday, but that is by choice. Mainly because I want to get some work done that I have not been able to do in the past couple of weeks/days because of lack of staff (and interest to be 100% honest). Also because I want the days after Christmas and New Years off. Besides, I'm the boss, if I didn't want to work, I wouldn't.
My ONLY responsibility for tomorrows dinner festivities is a veggie tray. I offered to do more, what little of it I know how to do, but I got out with a veggie tray. Yes!
I'm going to ice my twitch now... before it becomes noticeable to others, if it hasn't already.

Reading Menu--of sorts
I am reading When You Were Older by Catherine Ryan Hyde. Ever heard of her? She's got a few books under her belt. This is the first I've read of hers, but throughout the whole novel thus far, she's had me thinking and I want to read more.
One question that comes to mind is "where was I for 9-11?"
That's easy. I was home. I was "sick". I hated high school. For me being "sick" was a common theme. Hell, I'm surprised I graduated, not because my grades were bad, they weren't, I just never went. When I was there, physically at the school, I was never in a classroom. I had connections.
I remember my mother calling me and me having to get out of bed in order to answer the phone. All I heard on her end was "Oh my God, Mands are you watching this?" Watching what mom? I was sleeping before you rudely interrupted my blissful rest. Sleep was better than the history or gym class I was most likely missing at the time of the phone call. I turned the news on and then became glued to the screen. By the time my parents got home, I was able to tell them everything that the news reporters knew verbatim. I became more attuned to what was going on in the world on that very day.
I grew up in New York, like mentioned before, but the city was a good two and a half to three hours away from where I lived. So the accident didn't affect my every day activities like it did those in the city. But I knew people who were there, people who sat on the runway waiting for their flights to take off, only to find that they were not going anywhere any time in the near future. I knew people who went to school there. Knew people who lived there. I am fortunate to say however, that I did not know anyone who's life was taken far too soon on that horrific day. I just knew people who were in the right place at the right time, not in the air, not in the towers, not around the towers. I certainly didn't know anyone in the pentagon.
I went to school the next day and everyone was a buzz about what happened. I remember after that, we started having what the school called "lockdowns". Where everything would stop. Everything would shut down. We would have to find places to hide, turn off all the lights, and remain silent until the police and their dogs came around or the school administration thought we had been through enough and could resume with our days.
Having the planes fly into the towers and into the pentagon and destroy all those lives did not make me go to school more, it did not make me think less of Muslins, or be hateful to those of a different race or beliefs, it did not make me grounded. What it did do, was make me relish in my family more, it did make me take a second to think about whether I want to fly or drive anywhere (flying usually wins because my legs drive me batshit crazy after a few hours of sitting) and it did make me follow the news more and more. When I get home every night from work CNN of Fox (depending on how I want to view the world that day) will be on my television at some point throughout the evening.
I can argue the lefts and rights, I can argue the rights and the wrongs, I can argue the whites and the blacks and even the grays. I became more aware of what was going on around me.
The novel isn't so much about 9-11, but its about someones story after 9-11 and what he did, how he overcame and what he had to deal with in his life. So far it's a great story and I would recommend to anyone who wanted to listen.
Do you remember where you were when the towers were hit?

Reading Menu
So it's been a while since I've talked about what it is that I am reading. I don't even know where I left off, but I will start with Robert Crane. Ever heard of him?! Me neither until Amazon was giving away free books from the "In the Box" series. Books 1-3 to be exact. And by the time I was done with the third book, I was hooked so badly that I couldn't wait to get my hands on the fourth... and fifth.. and sixth... and seventh... and eighth... and ninth... and that's when I had to wait. But it was good for me to wait a little longer to find out about Mr. Crane, because I spent about two weeks reading about a world I wasn't used to reading and I loved it. Waiting for the tenth book was not my favorite.
Here's a little synopsis of the first series:
Sienna is a meta human, a sarcastic, lost, super strong meta human (read the books, you'll figure it out). Although she doesn't know it yet because she was locked in a house or a box growing up, and when she does figure it out, she gets even stronger and helps the country defend its kind from villains. There are all sorts of meta humans with different types of powers. Hers is the power to kill someone with her touch (try living with that power). Needless to say, she struggles with relationships and her definition of herself. The series is all about her fights, struggles, successes, and triumphs with her kind and the villains she defeats. There is ten books in the "In the Box" series.
Then Mr. Crane gives me even more of Sienna's sassiness and gives me the "Out of the Box" series. I've only read the first book, the second comes out early 2015, but the start of this series is about Sienna on her own, being a part of something bigger to protect her kind. She is working with the US government to help catch those who are destructive and cruel. Normal people cant catch meta humans, so police cant do the job. Sienna, in book one, is brought over to the UK to help them with a mass meta murderer. The end of the book leaves much promise for a seriously riveting series with Sienna.
It's an easy read, super quick for me, but good.
I didn't expect to like it because it is so outside of something that I've ever read before. But I did.

Pregnancy dreams and other useless info
Last night I had a dream that I was pregnant. Let me tell you this... fuck. no.
It was so surreal this am when I woke up and it totally took me a minute to realize that my dream was in fact, only a dream. I did not have to run to the OBG-YN this am. I do not have to pee on a stick and pray for 3 or 5 or however many minutes it takes for the little blue or pink line to appear. In order to become pregnant, you need to have sex. In order to have sex, you need to have a man. Again... fuck. no.
Someone else in this family can have kids. Leave my uterus alone.
Secondly, I want to go away somewhere. Somewhere warm. My next trip is to Colorado in the middle of January. I don't know what I was thinking when those plans came about. Was I sober? I had to have been, but for real... Colorado? I did some research and the average high there for January is 21. 21 degrees. I may have to change this...
Anyway, that's enough for now... I need to go feed my love child that's brewing in my tummy, but first, I have to find food.

Currently Loving
1// This face. Mainly because it's so precious and to be honest, who wouldn't? I spent the majority of the weekend with this face over at my rents house because I was dog sitting. They had gone up to Delaware (sounds weird to say "up north to Delaware" still) for a baby gender reveal. (Whomp, whomp) This pup is NOT theirs, but its Jess and Travs and they had something else to do this weekend as well, so I got 3 puppies, a beast, my angel and two of the neighbors dogs (as well as 4 cats) to tend to.
2// The Chex I am currently consuming by the handfuls for breakfast.
3// Not dragging this bleaky Monday morning. I don't know why, but for the most part, the beginning of the weeks always fly by for me. It's the end of the weeks that drag and then the weekends are non-existent.
4// The fact that maybe, just maybe my brother has given up on the idea that I am the one who needs to give the rents their first grandchild simply because I am the older one. He talked about giving the rents one just yesterday as Jess and I gave each other high fives behind his back. Maybe, just maybe, he's growing up a bit. I think the gender reveal for the neighbors grandbaby this weekend got to everyone. Hell, even I was thinking about it... but without a thing called a boyfriend, that shit is kinda hard to pull off. BUT, I asked my mother what she wanted for Christmas and she very quickly responded with a "for you to have a boyfriend" so maybe I'll start contemplating that idea as well. Maybe. (How many times do you think I could say "maybe" in this blog today?)
5// Can we get back to #1 a minute with this one?
6// The holidays. Normally I discourage the holiday spirit because I am the one in the fam without anyone to bring to all the dinners, but this year I cannot wait to have a break and celebrate with the fam.
7// Willow. I spend some time with her yesterday and she continues to outsmart me on many levels. Like we were watching a game and there was what I thought was a snake. I said something about it and she looked at me sternly and said "its not a snake Aunt Manda, its a sand serpent". What. The. Fuck. She'll be four. Jess' bday is this weekend and Trav wants to take her out somewhere, so I told them I would watch her for a bit. I may have her for her first sleepover at Mandas house. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I love her, but I love my freedom more... right?! But its only one night. Maybe.
8// Then there's this miserable face all weekend, mad at me because of # 1 and 5.
9// Boots. Want boots for Christmas and birthday.

He looks like a Frenchie here with his little arms and ears up in the air, but he's not. He's a mutt.

My world.

Can be found here.
And here.
They're not expensive. At all.
10// The fact that I finally finished Allegiant (the last book of the Divergent series). It was awful. I hated it. I wanted it to be like the first two, but no. Veronica Roth lost me on the last one. Mind you, I didn't care that Tris died, when I heard that she was going to before I even read it I was like okay, makes for a more interesting story line. Then she lives through the "death serum" and dies because she was shot? What. The. Fuck. Who does that? Why let her live through the serum then? And I couldn't get over the whole PMS thing from both Tris and Tobias. I really wanted them to stop whining, hating and then loving each other and just grow up. I felt like the end of the series was such a waste of my time. I should've stopped after the first two.

"You Tried to Kill Yourself?"
I don't think there needs to be anything more said about this. I am obsessed.

I really wanted to be done with the Divergent Series by now... but I'm not. Between work and illness and such I just haven't been that into.
Also, I think a huge role of it is that the third book is kind of dragging for me. The first two books had me hook, line and sinker. I thought about them the moment I woke up thinking that I needed to somehow figure out a way to read in the shower, read while driving, just read while "working". With this last book, however, I am really struggling.
I still like the ideas. The fact that everyone is trying to fit in somewhere is generally the same with real life, we just don't have such specific guidelines. If I'm in the nerdy clique in school, I can still be an athlete, still be compassionate, and can still be cruel. With the people in the book it's one thing or the other, you cant be both.
The first two are written from Tris perspective. The third one is from both Tris and Tobias. I am having a hard time following with that because they are both within pages of each other and both in the same situations. It's like a read a page thinking that I am read through Tris and I get to the next page and realize its been Tobias the whole time. It's a little over(under)whelming to try to keep up.
I am halfway through the last book. We'll see how I like the rest of it...

Feeling
Smug. Like the Republicans took control of the senate. Not so much a win for the republicans as it is a show of poor faith in the dems. The country is going to hell in a hand basket.
I stayed up wayyyyy to late watching the outcome. It wasn't an easy win. All the wins that the reps had wasn't by a landslide, hell, I'm sure there are even going to be some recounts because all the states that the rep picked up, it was like a 49-48, or 52-48 margin.
Nevertheless, a win is a win, and maybe the reps taking control of the senate will mean some changes. Maybe. Hopefully.

518 to 804- WaWa
Okay so the 518 has Stewart's and in many, many ways that nothing can compare (maybe just a few) (maybe just one). The 804, the 804 has this place called WaWa. For those of you that have never been and have been down south, south of the Mason Dixon, you need to go. They have everything you could possible imagine, and then some.
Like I want mac and cheese for lunch because its cold out, WaWa.
Want a frozen mocha coffee, WaWa.
Want a milkshake, WaWa.
Want a sub, made any way, without having to talk to people ever about it, WaWa.
They have these touch screens to order from, so really you go in, don't have to make eye contact or pleasantries with anyone. Pay for your shit and walk out.
They've every kind of coffee imaginable.
A regular gas station, so beer, chips, sodas, ice cream.
But then they've got the "healthy" section too. With fruits, salads, humus, wraps all pre-made to grab and go.
Stewart's, yes, they have the made to serve ice cream in multiple flavors that I have missed over the years, but that's about the only thing I miss from that store. Well, that and the memories. I do have some pretty legit memories (many I cannot share, ever) of my days spent both working and shopping at the store.
If it was ever a fight between the norths Stewart's and the souths Wawa... I think this is one fight that the south may actually win.
