Secrets In Death

Secrets In Death is J.D. Robbs' 45th murder mystery novel in her In Death series.

I'm no stranger to the authors In Death series.  I often wonder how Robb is able to come up with a different story line so often, but I am never disappointed.

NYSPD Detective Eve Dallas catches a murder right at her feet while at a dinner meeting with a colleague.  Wanting to get justice for the Gossip Guru victim as well as being pissed off it happened in her vicinity just drives her harder to catch the killer before there's another body on her hands.  She and her posse of detectives and her civilian consultant, super hot husband discover details about the victim that are not exactly public friendly for any of them so the need to keep quiet is strong.  Is someone protecting one of the gossip guru's targets?  Does she have a scandalous past?  What was she hiding?  Dallas finds it all.

Robb does an excellent job leaving the identity of the killer until the very last pages of the novel.  The character dynamics are, as always,  perfect.  They relate to the reader in so many different ways.  Dallas is both kick ass and funny, but still has a softer side.  Peabody is her perfect sidekick in so many ways.  And who doesn't like a super hot rich husband?

The mystery comes together so well, leaving me wanting for more and more from Robb.

Bookshelves, reviews and ratings

Guyssssss!

I've been gone.  I needed a hiatus of sorts.  From life, love and the pursuit of happiness.  BUT now, I'm back down on earth, a little bit fonder of love and definitely living life.

I've been reading like crazy.  Playing games, binge watching and all that, but reading like crazy.  That  means I'll get back to my reviewing while I'm adding more to my bookshelves.  Stay tuned!

Say Goodbye

"Go back to being friends
But tonight let's be lovers,
We kiss and sweat
We'll turn this better thing
To the best
Of all we can offer, Just a rogue kiss
Tangled tongues and lips,
See me this way
I'm turning and turning for you
Girl just tonight"

I wish someone, some times, could psycho analyze me and tell me why I do certain things.  Or put myself in certain situations.  I'm pretty sure I already know.  But reinforcements and affirmation would be great.  So I could cut that shit out.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S

Up until recently I had never seen a whole episode of the sitcom Friends.  In the past two weeks, I have binged watch all ten seasons. Here are my thoughts:

1.  I now understand why its probably still the most watched sitcom.  I literally just finished season ten not even 24 hours ago and I'm ready to start at season one again.
2.  Being at the age that the characters were on the show, I feel like maybe I'm not so behind in the times.  I don't a solid relationship, I don't have kids, and that's okay.  If it happens, it happens.  No need to rush things, or ever do things at all.
3.  I am in love with Matthew Perry.  Watching all ten season back to back, I saw the weight changes (I actually thought that maybe they were filmed out of order because in one season he's chunky, and then two seasons later he's chunky again).  I saw the dullness in his acting.  It wasn't until after I watched the show when I was Googling him (don't judge me) that I read that he had a drug problem and it all clicked for me.  He was the youngest on the show.  By far my favorite.  Despite his addiction, he still rocked everything he did on the show.  I am proud he's kicked his issue and now speaks openly about it.  So Matthew, if you read this and you're single, I'm not judgemental and I am very much looking for an older man who wants to have fun and love without all the marriage and babies thing.
4.  Having six friends is great.  No matter what there will always be someone to talk to, to go out with, to reflect with.  Having one or two close friends is great.  But I can see the appeal of having a small group.  I think I missed that.  I think that I am a good friend, but when it comes to staying in touch with people or gaining a new friend, I think I lack the ability.
5.  Family is everything.  Even if that family isn't blood.  Family is who you want it to be.

Letters

Dear Coffee Date,
I'm not sure what it is that you want from me.  You have someone, apparently someone you aren't ready to let go of just yet.  Still, you keep calling me to meet for coffee.  As platonic as that seems, and is, why do you do it if you have someone else?
I asked today and the answer I got was "I want a friend, someone I can talk to."  That's all fine and dandy, but what about this other woman? Can you not talk to her?  Is she not a friend?
I understand that I am significantly younger than you, and that can be a lot.  You dont know if I'm the partying type, the stay up all night type, the crazy type.  (I'm not, but you dont know this?  What you do know is that I am younger, and most younger people want different things than older people.
What I know, is that I am younger, and more attracted to older men than I care to admit.  What I want is to not be hidden, not be kept in someone's pocket until they've time to take me out and play with me.  What I want is to not be kept a secret.  I want a relationship.  I want to be able to go home to someone.
What I  think you want is a doll, a sex toy you can play with for a little while without having to end your current arrangement. What I think is that I would be temporary until the new wore off.  What I think is that I would be used and tossed aside.
Part of me wants to believe that this wouldn't happen.  The other part of me knows that I've done this before and I know what to expect.

I dont know if I want you to break the streak, or if I should just walk away.

Kindy,

Hidden in your pocket

Ing's Lately

Thinking:  oh goodness, there is a plethora of thoughts running through this hamster wheel of mine. An old friend reached out to me last night and I cant stop thinking about him.

Feeling:  Underwhelmed.  I expected more excitement from this Italian.  But it seems he wants to play games.  Game on.  I'm up for some mind fucking.

Wishing:  For a vacation some kind of bad.

Wanting: See above, and a new car.

Listening:  P!nk and Jennifer Nettles on replay lately.  Although Fleetwood Mac is always in there.

Drinking: Fiber water.  Peach Mango flavored.  I really want pizza for lunch.  This will curb that craving (hopefully) or at the very least make me feel full for a bit

Eating: I will be eating salad for lunch.  30 day weight loss challenge people

Debating:This Italian man and how this one will play out.  I'm not used to not being wanted or chased after.  Not to say that he's not, its just different with him for some reason.

May 1st

So it's May first.

I have started this 30 day strength and weight loss challenge with my trainer and a few other people (whom I don't know).  I was excited about it.  And I still am (kind of).  But I woke up this morning weighing 3 pounds more than I did last week, so ya know, there's that.  On the plus side, I know I can lose it quickly and be ahead of the game.

I am eager to get to the gym (kind of) and start this new chapter of continuing with my weight loss and bettering myself.  After the wedding and definitely after the half marathon, I kind of gave up.  And then I got a kidney stone and wanted to eat nothing but crackers and pasta and not move, ever.  And then the holidays came about.  And then this and then that... and then and then and then...

All excuses.  Now, I have some other health issues going on, all related to hormones, and female organs and such.  (Personally, I feel like someone can remove that shit, take it all, it only causes me problems.)

So 30 days.  30 days of accountability.  30 days of ass kicking.  30 days of healthy eating.

I'm thinking about trying the mason jar prepared smoothie things.  Maybe I'll stop at the market on my way home from the gym.

30 days.

Here goes nothing.
